Professor E.F. Salmon of Wye College in Kent, England, was responsible for breeding the variety Brewers Gold. This hop is well known all over the world and has been used in many international breeding programs. This is due to its moderate alpha acid content, high yield, and vigorous growth. It was developed from an open pollination of the wild Canadian Manitoba BB1 c.v. hop. Brewers Gold has been grown in the Alsace region of France since the late ’60s.
